What is frizzy hair?

A frizz in the hair occurs when hair cuticles are raised due to which the strands swell up, and the hair becomes frizzy and dry. Curly hairs tend to have this problem more often than straight hair as the strands are dehydrated. Curly hair is naturally drier than straight hair and dehydration caused by external factors might increase the condition.

Types of frizzy hair

Poof Ball Frizz

Just like the name, the hair becomes like a giant poof ball. The hair looks like a mess and can be very difficult to handle.

Application frizz

The application frizz occurs from overexposure to too many chemical products which dry up the hair even further and damages it.

Surface frizz

Surface frizz occurs just on the outer layers of the hair, that is, hair on the surface.

In-the-curl frizz

This type of frizz occurs in the curls. It takes away the smoothness of the curls and makes your hair look frizzy in some places.

Consuming vitamins for frizzy hair

Consuming the right vitamins are essential for hair growth to give extra nourishment & shine. What you also eat directly impacts your hair and skin. Vitamin A, C, B-Complex and E are vital for hair.

Avocado and Yogurt

Mix avocado and yogurt into a smooth paste and apply it on your hair. Wait for 40-45 minutes before washing it off. You can apply this once a week.  Avocado will repair the damage and nourish hair whereas yogurt has conditioning properties

Mayonnaise

Yes, you heard it right, mayonnaise can also repair the damage! Mix mayonnaise, pure almond oil, and 1 or 2 eggs, according to hair length and volume, making a smooth paste. Apply it generously and wash it after 30 minutes. This will provide shine and nourishment to the hair, and it also adds moisture which controls the frizz.

Egg and Almond oil

Combine almond oil and raw egg to make a mixture.  After applying this mixture, wait for 40 minutes before rinsing it off with a shampoo. Almond oil nourishes and conditions the hair while egg repairs damage and has high protein content.

Coconut oil along with Vitamin E oil

Both the oils should be mixed and applied on the hair. The hair is then washed after 40 minutes. Vitamin E has rich antioxidants that prevent damage, and coconut oil has properties that condition the hair.

Mash the banana properly and mix honey and almond oil. Apply this mixture and leave it on your hair for 20 minutes and rinse after that. All the ingredients provide deep conditioning to the hair.

Beer

The beer has to be decarbonized by letting it sit overnight in a bowl. After washing your hair with shampoo, pour the beer on your hair and massage your scalp. Then rinse the beer with cold water. Beer restores moisture and nourishes the hair.

Lemon and honey

Add lemon and honey to a cup of water and apply it on washed hair. Then massage your scalp for a few minutes and rinse your hair with warm water and shampoo. This will improve the health of the cuticles and boost hair growth.

Mix 2 tablespoon honey and 2 cups of lukewarm water. Apply it on your hair and let it sit for30 minutes. Then rinse it with shampoo. Honey is a great conditioner and adds shine and lightens the hair. It is also less time-consuming.

Yogurt and honey

Add tablespoon honey to 3 tablespoons yogurt. Apply this mixture on your hair and let it set for 30 minutes then rinse with water. The mixture of both conditions and moisturizes the hair.

Apple cider vinegar

Mix 2 spoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 cups of water. First, wash your hair with shampoo and then rinse hair with the diluted vinegar. Leave it for a few minutes before rinsing it off. Apple cider vinegar adds shine and helps your hair retain moisture.

Aloe vera juice

Aloe Vera Gel

Combine one-fourth cup of aloe vera gel and carrier oil. Apply this to your entire length and leave it for 30 minutes before washing it with shampoo. Aloe vera along with carrier oil forms a layer over your hair strands that prevent moisture loss.

Coconut milk

Heat coconut milk till it is warm and then apply it on the hair. Shampoo your hair after 30 minutes. Coconut milk repairs damaged hair and make your hair smooth.

Massage with hot oil

Hot oil massage is the easiest and convenient way to deal with frizzy hair. Oil prevents the hair from drying up and provides nourishment, thus making it frizz free.

Some foods that help with frizzy hair

Some foods have proteins that provide hair with moisture and nourishment. Few are listed below:

  • Salmon
  • Citrus fruits
  • Blueberries
  • Walnuts
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Yogurt
  • Chicken

Precautions to observe when you have frizzy hair

  1. Do not wash your hair with too hot water. It further damages your hair and dries it up.
  2. Do not overuse heat styling tools.
  3. Avoid cotton pillows as they absorb moisture from your hair.
  4. Do not use shampoo more than three times a week.
